The drama in Zimbabwe continues. It is now official that Morgan Tsvangirai beat Robert Mugabe in the Zimbabwe presidential elections but he did not win by more than 50% so there has to be a run-off vote between Tsvangirai and Mugabe to determine who the winner is. In soccer terms it would be like, the two are now going into a penalty shoot out to decide who the winner will be.

Putting the Zimbabwe situation into a soccer perspective; Team Mugabe used some underhand tactics against Team Tsvangirai. A large majority of the crowd watching the game was certain that Team Tsvangirai had won the game out right after 90 minutes. But some how Team Mugabe has managed to manipulate the score and say, instead of loose the game 3 – 0 we have only lost the game 3 – 2 and the rules of the game were that the winner has to win by two clear goals. Team Tsvangirai were leading comfortably 3 – 0 and on their way to be crowned winners but somehow Team Mugabe has pulled back two goals and have forced the game to go into a penalty shoot out.

Now Team Tsvangirai is livid as one would expect as they do not understand why they have to go into a penalty shootout if they have won. Team Tsvangirai is now thinking as they sit in the middle of the field wether to go ahead with the penalty shoot out or to walk off the field in protest? If Team Tsvangirai walks off the field and do not take part in the penalty shoot out then Team Mugabe will win.

Team Tsvangirai’s fear is that the penalty shoot out will not be free and fair if there are not enough unbiased referees officiating the penalty shoot out as they fear they will be cheated just as they were cheated during the 90 minutes from being 3 – 0 to seeing themselves only win 3 – 2. Going into the shoot out, it looks like the momentum now is behind Team Mugabe, they seem to have the upper hand. They have already started intimidating the opposition by beating them up and doing all they can to make sure that they win the shoot out. Team Tsvangirai will be letting down millions of their fans if they decide not to take part in the shoot out. Miracles do happen and it is worth a try. Rather fight, by taking part in the shoot out, than walk away and give the opposition victory on a silver plate.

My thought is that Team Mugabe had this all planned. Team Mugabe’s coach, Robert Mugabe, is a master tactician and seems to know just what to do at the right time. They made sure they would loose the game but not loose it by too much but just enough to make sure they get a chance to be in the penalty shoot out and make sure that they win the shoot out.

This game looks set to go down to the wire and it will be a very brave many to bet on who is going to win this. The bookmakers have Team Mugabe favourites in this position but you can never rule out Team Tsvangirai.
