It is not too often that we can sit here in South Africa and be happy with all three of our major sporting teams. Most of the time, one of them is loosing (most times it is Bafana Bafana) or one day all the talk is about how the rugby coach is letting the country down. I am referring to Bafana Bafana, the Springboks and the Proteas; Soccer, Rugby and Cricket respectively. All three teams won this week that has just gone by. I actually can not remember the last time that all three of these teams have one in the same week.

Bafana Bafana got the good times started by beating Cameroon 3-2 on Wednesday night in a friendly. A match which many had thought South Africa were going to loose but the boys showed us that if they get their act together and actually decide to play soccer, they are a match for any team in Africa. I would love to say they are a match for anyone in the world but that would be pushing it. But who knows, we will get to see them when they play Iraq, New Zealand and Spain in next years Confederations Cup here in South Africa.

The Springboks did us proud by inflicting a record defeat on England on Saturday. The Boks beat England 42-6. That was Englands worst ever defeat on their home ground. The Springboks went into this match under pressure as they had not been playing well in their previous two matches. But the Boks showed the world why they are the World Cups holders by putting in great display which left us happy throughout the whole of Saturday night.

Finally, the Proteas. They have not been letting us down lately. Yes they are playing Bangladesh which is not the best cricket team in the world but still, a win is a win. And the Proteas are not only beating Bangladesh but they are doing so convincingly by winning the first test by an innings and 129 runs.

It is refreshing for South African’s to take their mind off all the politics and economic news hitting us everyday and just sit back and enjoy the success of our sporting teams.
