The whole world is still waiting for the Zimbabwe election results but why the delay? Now the MDC have filed an application to the high court to get the results to be released but it looks like that application is going to be thrown out the window and we will be no closer to knowing the results. I have my own thought as to why these results are not being released and I do not think Mugabe is to blame for all of this.

There are various scenarios and theories behind the delay in the release of the results but I think the underlying fact is that, Robert Mugabe has lost the elections. If he had won then he would have been having his celebration party by now. On the other hand, if he had lost by a small margin, he would have been able to easily rig the results and manipulate a win situation for him but my thinking is that, Mugabe has lost the vote by such a large margin that he can not even rig the result to suite him. Now he does not know what to do.

Contrary to many peoples beliefs that Mugabe would never step down from power voluntarily, I think after he had ‘heard’ the election results and saw that he had lost by such a large margin he had decided to step down gracefully. Now the problem lies with those around Mugabe. They are the ones who do not want their leader to step down from power. If Mugabe were to relinquish his power, those around Mugabe would subsequently fall and they do not want that to happen. They have benefited greatly under the Mugabe era and if their ‘father’ goes they may aswell go with him and many of them could not be able to handle that. So my thoughts are that, these people around Mugabe are the ones blocking the release of the results and are busy loosing sleep trying to figure out what next to do to remain in power.

They may opt for the violence option where they start going around and intimidating people in the build up to a potential run-off election with the hope that Mugabe will win that vote. Mugabe is tired and frail and needs to rest now but it looks like those ‘younger’ ones around him still want him to continue working. Please guys, give the man a break. At this stage of Mugabe’s life, he should be retired in the country side waking up to the sound of cows and chickens and seeing his children running around and helping them with their homework!

Don’t blame it all on Mugabe, it is those cronies around him who are to blame for all of this. Yes Mugabe has done a lot wrong over the last couple of years but for the here and now, I think he himself has nothing to do with this.
