The historic power sharing deal in Zimbabwe has finally been signed now between Mugabe, Tsvangirai and Mutambara. This is the beginning of what many hope will be a positive change for Zimbabwe. The country has been going through a really tough time for the last 8 years or so and now the beginning of a new era starts today. Some would go as far as saying that this is Zimbabwe’s second independence day.

There are millions of Zimbabweans who had fled the country over the last 8 years and a large number of them had come here to South Africa. Now the question most of them are now asking themselves is; to go back home or not to go home?

There are already hundreds of people who have left South Africa today and started to head back to Zimbabwe after the power sharing deal was signed. They believe that things are now going to change for the better in Zimbabwe and they want to go and help build the ‘new’ Zimbabwe and be part of bigger and better things. But then there are some who have decided to wait and see what will happen. They are not quite sure if things will work out well in Zimbabwe and they would rather wait for a while and see what will happen. After all, the signed agreement states that there will be a fresh round of election in 18 months time which is when many see as being the moment a ‘full’ change will take place in Zimbabwe. For now it is just a matter of trying to start to build the foundations of the country. It will take some time to get Zimbabwe back on track. How long it will take exactly, remains to be seen.

So it is up to the individual now to decide what is best for them. I am sure that there will be quite a few people who are going to play the ‘wait and see’ card. If you were a gambling man, that would be the safest bet. If you are Zimbabwean, are you going to go back home now? Let us know what you think.

It is a bit too early to make such decisions. All we can do for now is wait and see. But I m happy that something positive has come out of this. My hope is that Mugabe does not screw it up and wake up one morning and make some crazy move.
