It looks like it is half-time in the talks between the MDC and ZANU PF. The negotiations on Zimbabwe’s political crisis will be adjourned for a few days to allow Zanu-PF and MDC leaders to return to Harare and consult with their parties. It is also believed that President Thabo Mbeki will travel to Zimbabwe this afternoon to meet with President Robert Mugabe. He is also expected to meet the leader of the second MDC faction Arthur Mutambara in Harare. Mbeki met with MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai and his team of negotiators in Pretoria yesterday.
So during this half-time interval, what is President Mbeki actually going to be saying to the parties involved? “Keep up the good work”, “A bit more intensity in the second half” or “You have them where you want them.” None of us really know what was discussed in the first half so it is not clear what will happen in the second. All we can do is just wait for the final whistle and hear what the result will be.
