Congratulations to South Africa for winning the Rugby World Cup in France yesterday. It had been 12 years since South Africa had won the trophy and now finally it can return home.

The Springboks managed to beat England 15 - 6 in a tightly contested game last night. Before the game, South Africa were favorites to win and they lived up to their favorites tag and rarely looked like loosing the game over the 80 minutes. Although England had a try disallowed, the Springboks always looked comfortable and with the accuracy of Percy Montgomery’s kicking, the result was never in doubt.

Now I hope that South Africa can build from this and repeat this achievement in four years time in News Zealand. South Africa winning the World Cup has been a culmination of many years of hard work from the time coach Jake White took over at the top. During his time as head coach there has been a lot of niggles on and off the field but credit must be given to Jake White for sticking around and leading the country to one if its greatest achievements. I recall a time about a year ago when almost everyone was calling for Jake White to be fired and not to long ago Jake was on the verge of quitting due to the ‘politics’ in South Africa rugby. Who can forget the whole Luke Watson debate? But let us put all that behind us now, we are World Champions and should enjoy the moment and more importantly build on from here.

InTheNews.co.za would like to congratulate John Smit and his team for a job well done and we can not wait to see you back in South Africa on Tuesday with the trophy.
